Cornas 2022 from Domaine Aléofane by Natacha Chave is a cuvée that fully expresses the excellence of Cornas' terroir and the winemaker's careful and natural approach. This wine comes from a 1-hectare plot planted in 2017, located on the western side of the appellation at an altitude of 380 meters. It is the third vintage from this plot, already showing extraordinary potential.
The grapes used for this Cornas are massal selection Syrah, reflecting Natacha Chave's commitment to authenticity and vineyard biodiversity. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically, with no herbicides, insecticides, or invasive interventions, allowing nature to express itself freely. The harvest is manual, and the vinification involves partial destemming, with about two-thirds of the berries left whole for fermentation in tanks for three weeks. The wine is then aged in demi-muids, large-capacity barrels that allow for slow aging without overwhelming the wine's aromatic profile.
From an organoleptic perspective, Cornas 2022 is a wine of great depth and power, revealing intense and concentrated aromas from the first sip. Notes of spices, roasted coffee, and floral hints are balanced by a sense of lightness and airiness, which counterbalances the wine’s opulence. Decanting is essential to fully appreciate the aromatic complexity, with layers of flavors unfolding progressively in the glass.
