Altesse 2022 Petit Roy
Petit Roy's Altesse is a quality white wine produced in the Savoy region of France, located in the eastern part of the country on the border with Italy and Switzerland. The wine owes its name to the Altesse grape, a variety native to the region, which is also known as Roussette, from which the appellation "Roussette de Savoie" derives its name.
The Altesse grapes used to make this wine come mainly from vineyards located in the hills of Savoie, at an altitude ranging from 300 to 600 meters above sea level. The region offers a unique terroir due to a combination of limestone and clay soils, along with a mountain climate characterized by harsh winters and cool, short summers. Most of Petit Roy's Altesse producers adhere to sustainable or organic farming practices, limiting the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Planting density is usually around 4,000 to 5,000 vines per hectare, and the vines are grown primarily through the "Guyot" or "Cordon de Royat" technique, which allows for better foliage exposure and proper ripening of the grapes.
The winemaking process for Petit Roy's Altesse begins with the manual harvesting of the grapes, usually between late September and early October. The grapes are gently pressed to extract the must, which is then left to ferment in stainless steel tanks or wooden barrels (depending on the producer's preference) at a controlled temperature of 16-20°C for a period of 2-4 weeks. In some cases, malolactic fermentation may be practiced to increase the complexity of the wine. Finally, Petit Roy's Altesse is aged for several months in vats or wooden barrels before being bottled and allowed to rest for an additional period of bottle aging.
Petit Roy's Altesse has a bright straw yellow color with greenish highlights. On the nose, it offers an intense and complex bouquet, characterized by floral (jasmine, acacia), fruity (green apple, pear, peach) and mineral notes, with a slight hint of bitter almond. On the palate, the wine is fresh and lively, with good acidity balancing its structure and smoothness. The fruity and floral flavors blend harmoniously with the mineral and toasty notes, giving the wine a long, lingering finish.
Petit Roy's Altesse pairs perfectly with fish dishes, shellfish, goat cheese and vegetable dishes. It is a wine that can also be enjoyed as an aperitif, thanks to its freshness and liveliness.
