Arbois "Lou Blanc" 2018 Micheal Gahier
Arbois 'Lou Blanc' 2018 is a white wine from the Jura produced using natural methods by Micheal Gahier. It is made from pure Melon à Queque Rouge, an ancient vine relative of Chardonnay grown on limestone and clay soils. The wine is made in the 'ouillé' style, in which the barrels are topped up during maturation so that the wine does not oxidise in the cask.
This method of vinification ensures that the resulting wine is fresh and lively, with the typical old-fashioned flavour of Melon à Queue Rouge, which is somewhere between Chardonnay and Savagnin in terms of taste and texture. Melon loves oxidation (like Savagnin) and is capable of producing wines of incredible complexity and depth.
A fresh and lively white wine, this 'Lou Blanc' 2018 from Gahier is typical of the style of the region, with a hint of those oxidative qualities that Jura fans can't do without.
