Barbaresco 2020 Francesco Versio
Francesco Versio's Barbaresco is an excellent expression of the prestigious winemaking tradition of Piedmont, characterized by a selection of high-quality grapes and artisanal production methods. It comes to life in soils rich in limestone in San Cristoforo and Starderi, and sandy soils in the Currà region. The vines, ranging in age from 15 to 55 years, thrive in these unique conditions, imparting a distinctive character to the wine.
The production begins with natural fermentation, providing an authentic connection to the terroir. The duration of maceration varies depending on the phenolic ripeness of the grapes. In warmer years with early harvests, lower temperatures and shorter maceration are employed. For later harvests, maceration can extend up to 35 days, culminating with a submerged cap to enhance structure while maintaining elegance. Maceration is handled delicately, with only pump-overs and no délestage. The wine matures for 16 months in large barrels, a combination of 20HL Stockinger and tonneaux.
Francesco Versio's Barbaresco presents itself in the glass with a captivating garnet color. On the nose, it offers a broad and rich bouquet, with aromas of ripe red fruits, dried flowers, and hints of tobacco and spices. On the palate, it reveals extraordinary elegance, remarkable balance, and a pleasantly silky tannic structure. This wine is characterized by astonishing depth and incredible persistence, with a finish that invites further exploration.
This Barbaresco finds its perfect companion in red meat dishes but is equally suitable for pairing with game and venison. Its versatility makes it ideal for enhancing the flavors of traditional Piedmontese cuisine, contributing to the creation of a memorable culinary experience.
