Barbaresco Cavanna 2017 Luigi Giordano
The Barbaresco Cavanna 2017 by Luigi Giordano is a unique and historic expression of Nebbiolo, sourced from the Cavanna MGA (Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva), the closest subzone to the village of Barbaresco. This vineyard, situated on Sant’Agata Fossili marl soils, benefits from the ascending currents of the Tanaro River, providing a distinctive microclimate that enhances freshness and balance.
Hand-harvested in mid-October, when the Nebbiolo reaches optimal phenolic ripeness, the wine undergoes traditional fermentation for 20-25 days in stainless steel tanks with frequent pump-overs. It then matures for 18-24 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by three years of ageing in wood before bottling in July.
In the glass, it reveals a deep garnet red hue. The nose offers complex aromas of ripe red fruits, violets, and sweet spices, with hints of forest floor, tobacco, and leather. The palate is structured and enveloping, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, harmonious finish.
A wine with great ageing potential, it pairs beautifully with braised meats, game, aged cheeses, and truffle-based dishes.
