Gaja Costa Russi 2005
Barbaresco Gaja Costa Russi is a fine Italian wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes in the homonymous cru in the town of Barbaresco. The name Costa Russi derives from the union of two terms: Costa, which in Piedmontese dialect indicates the best side of a hill with southern exposure, and Russi, the name of the old owner of the cru, from whom Angelo Gaja bought the land.
Gaja Costa Russi is made from grapes harvested by hand and fermented in steel tanks, then Gaja wine is aged for 12 months in barrique and other 12 months in big cask, in order to obtain a structured and deep wine, a great expression of Italian red wine.
Costa Russi Gaja is presented in a garnet colored glass with light orange reflections, the nose is absolutely complex, it goes from violet, typical of Nebbiolo, to medicinal herbs, from coffee to plums, from tobacco to chocolate, as well as an incredible quantity of spices. In the mouth the wine is elegant and robust, rich in personality, with a nice mineral note to balance a dense and soft tannic texture. The finish is long and slightly savory, with an incredible persistence.
Barbaresco Costa Russi Gaja is one of the best Italian fine wines, a monument that Angelo Gaja continues to produce year after year, to the delight of wine lovers all over the world.
