Barbaresco Reyna 2017 Michele Chiarlo
Barbaresco Reyna by Michele Chiarlo is a sublime expression of the prestigious Nebbiolo grape, cultivated with care and dedication in the municipalities of Barbaresco, Neive, and Treiso. The vines thrive in clay-limestone marl soils with blue-gray hues, enriched by microelements in the Barbaresco vineyard, while the Treiso vineyard soils exhibit a sandy component. The vineyards, facing southeast and southwest, ensure optimal grape ripening.
The Guyot training system is employed for proper vine development, and the harvest is manual, following careful cluster thinning in late summer. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, with a maceration of 17/18 days in contact with the skins and a gentle wetting of the cap using the "shower" system at temperatures between 32 and 27 °C. Malolactic fermentation occurs in steel, adding further complexity to the wine.
The meticulous aging process of Barbaresco Reyna spans two years, with at least 12 months in large barrels before further refinement in the bottle. This attention to maturation contributes to the wine's extraordinary elegance and organoleptic complexity.
Reyna's color is a brilliant garnet red, foreshadowing a noble and complex bouquet. Ethereal notes, small red fruits, rose petals, and hints of tea leaves mingle in an enveloping aroma. On the palate, the wine is aristocratic, with remarkable finesse of tannins and a long and balanced finish. Reyna truly embodies Michele Chiarlo's style, emerging from carefully managed vineyards, environmentally respectful practices, and a judicious use of wood during maturation.
After resting for a minimum of 18 months in large barrels and an additional 6 months in the bottle, Reyna reveals itself as a sensory masterpiece. An ideal companion for formal dinners, Barbaresco Reyna stands out with its intense ruby color, typically floral and fruity nose, and a rich, structured, and elegant palate. The exceptionally long finish unfolds with enveloping notes of tobacco, coffee, cocoa, leather, and humus. In each sip, this wine encapsulates the refined essence and oenological mastery of Michele Chiarlo.
