Barolo 2014 Oddero
Poderi Oddero's Barolo 2014 is a red wine produced in the controlled and guaranteed designation of origin of the same name located in the Piedmont region of Italy. The grapes used for the production of this wine come from the estate's own vineyards, which extend for about 35 hectares in the territory of La Morra, one of the municipalities that make up the Barolo area.
The cultivation of the vines follows strict soil and plant management techniques, with particular attention to environmental sustainability. Most of the vineyards are cultivated using the integrated viticulture method, which involves the use of synthetic plant protection products only when necessary, while the rest are grown organically. The company's aim is to preserve the biodiversity of the surrounding environment and to minimise the environmental impact of wine production.
The grapes used for the production of the 2014 Barolo were harvested by hand at the end of September, in a year characterised by mild weather and a balanced grape ripening season. After the harvest, the grapes were carefully selected and brought to the winery for vinification.
The vinification of Poderi Oddero's Barolo 2014 involves alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by maceration on the skins for about 15-20 days. After racking, the wine was transferred to French oak barriques, where it underwent malolactic fermentation and aged for about 30 months before bottling.
From an organoleptic point of view, Poderi Oddero's Barolo 2014 has an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues. On the nose, there are hints of ripe red fruit, such as cherry and plum, accompanied by spicy notes of vanilla, black pepper and cinnamon, as well as an elegant floral nuance of violet. In the mouth, the wine is complex and balanced, with a good structure and silky tannins that give it a pleasant smoothness. The finish is long and persistent, with notes of dried fruit and spices.
