Barolo 2017 Cascina Fontana
Barolo 2017 Cascina Fontana is a fine red wine produced by Mario Fontana with the intention of expressing in the most sincere and authentic way his love for his land and his respect for the farming traditions that have inspired and continue to influence the work of the winemaker. This Piedmontese wine is made from Nebbiolo grapes from three vineyards owned by the Fontana family: Villero (cru Villero) and Valletti (cru Mariondino) in the commune of Castiglione Falletto and Gallinotto (cru Giachini) in the commune of La Morra.
The different areas of origin with their respective characteristics contribute to enrich the Cascina Fontana Barolo with elements such as structure, elegance, fruit, etc.. The Cascina Fontana Barolo 2017 is a wine inspired by tradition, therefore characterised by a certain austerity and complexity that requires a long period of refinement both in barrel and in bottle before it can express itself at its best. The vinification is also traditional, and according to the teachings passed down by his grandfather Saverio, Mario Fontana vinifies the grapes from different vineyards separately. Only after fermentation are the wines blended and matured for about two years in Slavonian oak casks of about 25 hectolitres. The wine then goes into cement vats for another year to settle before bottling.
The Barolo Cascina Fontana shows a typical garnet red colour in the glass, not too deep, while the nose offers a rich, elegant and mouth-watering bouquet of floral and ripe red fruit, with balsamic notes of mint and liquorice. In the mouth, the taste is complex and soft, at the same time very fresh and elegant, with a very long persistence. Animated by a great freshness and a certain degree of austerity in its youth, with age it acquires greater harmony through greater softness and silkier tannins.
