Barolo Castiglione Falletto 2016 Cascina Fontana
Barolo Castiglione Falletto 2016 Cascina Fontana is a fine red wine produced by Mario Fontana with the intention of expressing in the most sincere and authentic way his love for his land and respect for the farming tradition that has inspired and continues to influence the work of the winemaker. This particular label is a dedication from Mario to his family, the Fontana family, a thank you for supporting and inspiring him.
The Cascina Fontana Barolo Castiglione Falletto 2016 is a wine inspired by tradition, hence characterised by a certain austerity and complexity that requires a long period of ageing both in barrel and in bottle before it can express itself at its best. The vinification is also traditional, and according to the teachings handed down by his grandfather Saverio, Mario Fontana vinifies grapes from different vineyards separately. Only after fermentation are the wines blended and mature for about two years in Slavonian oak barrels of about 25 hectolitres. The wine then goes into cement tanks for another year to settle before bottling.
The Barolo Castiglione Falletto 2016 Cascina Fontana shows a typical, not too deep garnet red colour in the glass, while the nose offers a bouquet of dried flowers and red fruit jam, with delicate notes of sweet spices, cocoa, and menthol. The palate is austere and elegant, with silky, enveloping tannins that blend with a distinct minerality.
