Barolo Comune Castiglione Falletto 2017 Magnum Cascina Fontana
Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto is a fine red wine from Piedmont, the most significant label of Cascina Fontana, which Mario Fontana has dedicated to the memory of his family. Mario started working with his parents at the age of 17, but it was above all his grandfather Saverio who passed on to him the love of the land and the traditional model that still inspires him today.
Mario Fontana's wines come from the stories of the old farmers who dedicated their lives to the vineyards, despite their limited financial resources. The Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto 2016 Magnum is made from Nebbiolo grapes from two prestigious vineyards in the commune of Castiglione Falletto: "Villero", famous for creating austere but elegant wines, and "Mariondino" which gives slightly softer wines: these characteristics combine to create a Barolo of great class and harmony.
The 2017 Magnum of Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto by Cascina Fontana is aged for two years in Slavonian oak barrels plus one year in cement. Ruby red in colour with garnet reflections and typically lightly loaded, it offers notes of ripe red fruit, spices, cocoa, balsamic touches of liquorice and mentholates on the nose. The taste is austere and elegant, balanced by a nice softness and a silky tannic texture.
