Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba 2006 Fontanafredda
The 2006 Barolo from the Municipality of Serralunga d'Alba, crafted by Fontanafredda, captures the unique essence of its terroir. The vineyards, situated at 300-400 meters above sea level, thrive in soils rich in limestone, grey marls, and sand. South and southwest exposures ensure optimal ripening of Nebbiolo grapes.
Harvested between early and mid-October, the grapes undergo a traditional fermentation process in stainless steel tanks with floating caps, maintained at controlled temperatures (30-31 °C) for 15 days. Frequent pump-overs enhance the extraction of polyphenolic and aromatic substances.
Aging occurs in two stages: one year in Allier oak barriques, followed by another year in large 2,000-3,000-liter barrels. After a gentle clarification, the wine is bottled for a minimum of 12 months of refinement, varying with the vintage's character. This meticulous process imparts structure, elegance, and remarkable aging potential, with its peak expected 8 to 10 years post-harvest.
In the glass, the wine displays a ruby red hue with garnet reflections. The bouquet is intense and precise, revealing notes of vanilla, spices, dried roses, and forest floor. On the palate, it is dry, soft, full-bodied, and velvety, with harmonious and enduring persistence that enhances the tasting experience.
This Barolo pairs beautifully with hearty red meat dishes, roasts, braised meats, and medium to long-aged cheeses. It also shines as a contemplative wine, perfect for savoring during moments of relaxation and conversation, making every occasion memorable.
