Barolo "La Foia" 2019 Nadia Curto
Barolo "La Foia" 2019 by Nadia Curto embodies the excellence and tradition of winemaking in the heart of the Barolo region. Produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Arborina vineyard, located in La Morra, this wine represents a sublime expression of Nebbiolo from the Langhe hills. The Arborina vineyard, characterized by blue marl soils of Sant’Agata Fossili, offers a unique microclimate with southern and southwestern exposure and high altitude between 270 and 300 meters. These optimal conditions allow the grapes to ripen slowly, achieving full aromatic and structural complexity.
Hand-harvested in October when the grapes reach perfect phenolic ripeness, followed by careful destemming and crushing. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation occurs thanks to indigenous yeasts naturally present on the skins, in a pied de cuve created with attention and patience. During fermentation, which lasts for about 20 days, daily manual punch-downs and pump-overs are performed to gently extract color, tannins, and aromatic complexity.
After fermentation, the wine is racked into stainless steel tanks where it undergoes natural malolactic fermentation. Subsequently, "La Foia" ages for 24 months in large oak barrels of 20 or 30 hectoliters, where it develops its structure and complexity without losing the elegance and freshness typical of great Barolo wines. Finally, after at least one year of bottle aging, the wine is ready to be released, without any clarification or filtration to preserve its integrity and complexity.
In the glass, Barolo "La Foia" displays an intense garnet color, bright and luminous, with orange hues indicating its evolution. The aromatic bouquet is deep and complex, with intense notes of ripe red fruit, dog rose petal, and hints of licorice, leather, and truffle interwoven elegantly. On the palate, it is enveloping and full-bodied, with a well-defined yet soft tannic structure, supported by a mineral freshness that brings balance and persistence. The finish is long, aromatic, and invites further sensory exploration.
This Barolo not only embodies the essence of Nebbiolo but also reflects Nadia Curto's commitment and dedication to producing wines that showcase the unique terroir of her estate and the family tradition spanning generations of passion for wine.
