Barolo Perno 2018 Elio Sandri
The Barolo Perno 2018 by Elio Sandri is a prestigious red wine produced in the Piedmont region of Italy, using Nebbiolo grapes from vineyards located in the Perno area, in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. These vineyards are cultivated on calcareous and clayey soils, rich in blue marl from the Lequio formation, facing south and east at an altitude between 250 and 350 meters above sea level.
The cultivation of the grapes follows sustainable agriculture principles, using natural techniques to maintain the health of the soil and plants, limiting the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. The grapes are handpicked into small crates to preserve the integrity of the fruit, carefully selected, and transported to the winery for vinification.
The vinification process for Barolo Perno 2018 involves fermentation in cement tanks with spontaneous fermentation and temperature control for 3-4 weeks, followed by aging in Slavonian oak barrels for at least three years. Subsequently, the wine is bottled and left to rest in the cellar for at least a year before being marketed.
The Barolo Perno 2018 by Elio Sandri is a wine of intense ruby color with garnet reflections. On the nose, notes of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry are perceived, combined with a spicy aroma of black pepper, cinnamon, and cloves, with hints of leather and tobacco. On the palate, it is powerful and structured, with robust tannins and balanced acidity. The aromatic persistence is long, leaving a aftertaste of ripe fruit and spices.
