Bas Armagnac 2012 De Pontiac
Mistakenly referred to as armagnac wine, as properly a distillate, although derived from a grape variety just like cognac, it is produced by resting aqua-vitae in oak barrels from Gascony or other strictly French areas, then aged in above-ground storage areas known as chai.
Aged Armagnac follows the same legal denomination as cognac, which subdivides spirits according to the ageing of the spirit, and is subject to increase in value over time according to producer, years of ageing and area of production:
- VS or De Luxe (Very Special)
- VSOP or Réserve (Very Superior or Very Special Old Pale)
- XO (eXtra Old)
