Brunello di Montalcino 2017 Salvioni
Brunello di Montalcino 2017 is a great Tuscan wine produced by the talented Salvioni winery. It is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grapes from vines of different ages ranging from 5-10 to 25 years old, which grow at altitudes of 420/440 metres above sea level and are exposed to the south/east of the Montalcino hillside, where they enjoy a good microclimate and good ventilation.
The soil is marlstone and, together with the altitude, makes the wines soft and well balanced in acidity. The wine ferments in stainless steel containers for 25-30 days, then begins its maturation after racking, which takes place in the same steel containers for a further few months, carrying out malolactic fermentation at the end of which, after racking, it is placed in casks. The company has always used large barrels of 18/22 hectolitres of medium toasted Slavonian oak. Once the wine has finished its period of maturation in the barrels, which often lasts up to 36 months, it is bottled and aged in the bottle until it reaches the 5 years necessary to be put on the market.
Salvioni's Brunello di Montalcino 2017 has a ruby red colour with some garnet reflections. On the nose it expresses an intense and complex bouquet made up of aromas of ripe cherries, underbrush and spices, while the sip is powerful and structured, with tannins present but soft and a long persistence in the mouth. The Brunello di Montalcino Salvioni goes very well with roasted red meats and game skewers, and the older vintages are also excellent as a meditation wine.
