Champagne Les Catherines Millesime 2014 Salmon
The 2014 Champagne Les Chatherines Millesime is one of Maison Salmon's most interesting cuvées. It is made from 100% Pinot Meunier grapes sourced from the single Les Catherines parcel located a few hundred metres from the winery, and whose vines were planted in 1969.
As many of you may know, Salmon is a third-generation Domaine based in the sleepy town of Chaumuzy in the Ardre Valley. They are specialists in Pinot Meunier, are members of the Tresors des Vignes, also known as the Special Club (only 28 members), and what's more, they are also balloonists!
This cuvée, produced in limited quantities (around 1234 bottles), stands out for its incredible elegance and quality, and is absolutely one of the best expressions of Champagne produced by Salmon. This Champagne has no residual sugar and is therefore characterised by a remarkable dose of freshness and minerality.
Luminous straw yellow in colour, it expresses on the nose hints of flint, white fruit, butter, hazelnuts, marzipan and citrus fruit on a chalky note. The base wine does not age in wood, yet this Champagne is endowed with considerable structure probably due to the age of the vines. The sip is rich but balanced by a nice dose of freshness and minerality.
