Champagne Vintage 2008 Krug
Krug Vintage 2008 is a high-end Champagne produced by the house of Krug with grapes from the Champagne region of France.
The grapes used to produce Krug Vintage 2008 are Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, selected from the best vineyards in the region. The grapes are cultivated using traditional and sustainable viticulture methods to preserve the quality of the soil and the vines themselves. Harvesting is done manually, and only perfectly ripe grapes are selected for wine production.
The vinification process of the Krug Vintage 2008 is based on the traditional techniques of the Champagne region. After the first fermentation, the wine is blended with reserve wines from different vintages, selected from the best wines of the Maison Krug, to create a complex and balanced cuvée.
After the creation of the cuvée, the wine is bottled with the addition of sugar and yeast, for a second fermentation in the bottle. This phase is called 'prise de mousse' and lasts approximately six months. After this phase, the wine undergoes a long process of bottle ageing on the lees, which can last more than ten years.
During ageing, the Krug Vintage 2008 undergoes a "remuage" process, which consists of tilting and turning the bottles to allow the yeasts to settle at the bottom of the bottle. This process is followed by disgorgement, which consists of opening the bottles and manually removing the deposited yeasts. The wine is then 'dosed' with a small amount of 'liqueur d'expédition', a mixture of wine and sugar, to balance its flavour.
The result is a wine of an intense golden yellow colour, with a fine and persistent mousse. On the nose, notes of ripe fruit such as peach, apricot and dried fruit emerge, accompanied by hints of sweet spices, citrus fruits and white flowers. In the mouth, the wine is complex, structured and balanced, with a long persistence.
The Krug Vintage 2008 is a wine of great elegance and complexity, fully expressing the characteristics of the Champagne terroir. Thanks to its complex structure and persistent flavour, it lends itself to pairing with high-quality dishes such as shellfish, fish, white meats and hard cheeses.
Its intense aroma and complex, balanced flavour make it a wine of great prestige, which deserves to be enjoyed with care and respect.
