Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean 2013 Jean-Marc Pillot
The grapes that Jean-Marc Pillot uses to produce this fine Burgundy wine come from the Clos Saint Jean, one of the oldest vineyards in Chassagne, with vines that have been here since the year 1000. This area lies at the top of the Premiers Crus area, an area overlooked by the marble quarries of the Chassagne mountain, conditions that give the wines intense minerality. Bright ruby red in colour, this wine expresses on the nose an aromatic bouquet made up of aromas of cherries, raspberries, spices, animal and vegetable notes. The sip is structured but very fresh, composed of silky tannins and with a nice length on the finish. Jean-Marc Pillot's wines embody the qualities that make Burgundy great: they are classic, refined and elegant, and although he mainly produces white wines, he also makes fine reds like this Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean.
