Clos de Tart Grand Cru 2001
The Clos de Tart Grand Cru 2001, produced by Domaine Clos de Tart, is a magnificent and refined expression of Pinot Noir, hailing from one of the most esteemed Grand Cru Monopole vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis, Côte de Nuits.
The 2001 vintage was marked by irregular weather patterns: a mild winter, a rainy spring, and alternating warm and cool summer periods. In September, cold and wet conditions delayed ripening, leading to a late harvest (Sept 27 - Oct 1). Thanks to expert vineyard management, the grapes were picked at optimal maturity, resulting in a wine that faithfully expresses the terroir of Clos de Tart.
In the glass, the Clos de Tart Grand Cru 2001 displays a deep ruby red color. The nose is elegant and complex, featuring red and black fruit aromas—such as cherry, blackcurrant, and blackberry—along with subtle hints of spices, forest floor, and a distinctive minerality.
On the palate, it offers remarkable structure and balance, with fine-grained tannins and well-integrated acidity that provide freshness and longevity. The long, persistent finish is characterized by spicy and mineral nuances, enhancing the pure expression of Pinot Noir.
Clos de Tart’s unique character stems from its North/South vineyard orientation, an uncommon feature in the Côte-d’Or, and its diverse mosaic of soils and subsoils. Enclosed by a 1.2 km dry-stone wall, the vineyard is a living testament to Burgundy’s rich winemaking heritage.
A long-lived wine, ideal for collectors and lovers of great Burgundy expressions. It pairs beautifully with game dishes, roasted duck, beef tenderloin, and aged cheeses.
