Description

Cote de Nuits Villages 2021 Domaine Lou Dumont - Koji Nakada

The Cote de Nuits Villages from Domaine Lou Dumont, produced by Koji Nakada, is an extraordinary wine that embodies the essence of Burgundy. This wine comes from the "Saint Seine" section in the village of Comblancien, a terroir that imparts unique and distinctive characteristics to the final product.

This wine is made 100% from Pinot Noir grapes, a variety that finds its ideal habitat in the Côte de Nuits thanks to the climate and the soils rich in clay and limestone. The vines, with an average age of over 40 years, grow on well-exposed slopes, benefiting from excellent sunshine that promotes optimal ripening of the grapes. The yield is limited to 40 hl/ha, a factor that contributes to the concentration of flavors and the quality of the wine.

Harvesting is done manually in small 5 kg crates, a method that preserves the integrity of the grapes and allows for rigorous selection directly in the vineyard. Fermentation occurs with natural yeasts, reflecting a minimalist and respectful approach to the fruit and terroir. Part of the primary fermentation also takes place in barrels, a process that adds complexity and structure to the wine.

Aging is a key element for the Cote de Nuits Villages of Domaine Lou Dumont. The wine matures for 18 months, one-third in new barrels from Centre Mori produced by Seguin Moreau, and the remaining two-thirds in barrels used twice from the same company. This mix of new and used barrels helps balance the contribution of tannins and wood aromas, without overpowering the delicate characteristics of Pinot Noir.

The wine is bottled without clarification and without filtration, a method that preserves all the purity and integrity of the flavors and aromas.

The Cote de Nuits Villages Rouge from Domaine Lou Dumont presents a fascinating and complex olfactory bouquet. On the nose, floral notes are immediately distinguishable, followed by hints of red currant and pomegranate, which lend freshness and vivacity. On the palate, the wine is soft and approachable, with a full and enveloping structure. The concentrated fruit blends seamlessly with a touch of licorice on the finish, offering a persistent and gratifying tasting experience.
