Etna Rosso "Contrada Cavaliere" 2018 Benanti
The 2018 Etna Rosso "Contrada Cavaliere" is a red wine from Etna produced by the Benanti winery. It is made from pure Nerello Mascalese grapes that come from the vineyard in Contrada Cavaliere, on the south-western slope of Etna, in the municipality of Santa Maria di Licodia (CT).
Here, the altitude and excellent exposure make the terroir particularly suitable for wine production. The soil is volcanic and sandy, rich in minerals and skeleton and with an excellent capacity to drain water, while the climate is mountainous, characterised by high ventilation and sudden changes in temperature. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with maceration for about 21 days, using indigenous yeasts studied in the laboratory.
The wine matures in French oak tonneaux for 12 months and then in steel before being bottled for a further 10 months. To the eye it shows an intense ruby red colour, while to the nose it expresses ethereal, spicy and red fruit scents. The taste is dry, tannic, persistent and balanced.
