Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos St Jacques" 2021 Domaine Bruno Clair
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru “Clos St Jacques” from Domaine Bruno Clair is a Pinot Noir of exceptional quality, produced from vines planted in 1957 and 1973. The vineyard covers one hectare and thrives on a clay-limestone soil, with a subsoil that includes Premeaux limestone, limestone with entroques and clay limestone. The east/southeast orientation of the vineyards, located at an average altitude of 315 meters, ensures perfect sun exposure, which is essential for optimal grape ripening.
Vinification of Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru “Clos St Jacques” involves using 30-50% whole clusters, with maceration lasting 10 to 15 days in wooden vats. This traditional process allows tannins and complex aromas to be extracted from the Pinot Noir. The wine then matures for 18-20 months in oak barrels, about 35 percent of which are new, enriching the wine with additional complexity and depth.
Organoleptically, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru “Clos St Jacques” shows a brilliant ruby red color. On the nose, it offers a balanced bouquet of red fruit aromas, such as cherry and raspberry, enriched by subtle floral and spicy notes. On the palate, the wine reveals remarkable complexity and layering, with good length and a well-balanced tannic structure. The minimum recommended aging capacity is 6-7 years, during which time the wine develops further nuance and depth.
This wine is ideal with red meat dishes, game and aged cheeses, enhancing flavors with its elegance and complexity.
