Ghemme Collis Breclemae 2015 Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo
Ghemme 'Collis Breclemae' 2015 is a structured and long-lived Piedmontese red wine produced by the Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo winery. The name 'Collis Breclemae' derives from the fact that the vineyards are located on the hills above the now-destroyed medieval village of Breclema, a strategic stronghold of the Counts of Biandrate, at the entrance to Valsesia, on the outskirts of Ghemme.
The Ghemme Collis Breclemae of the Cantalupo winery is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, which also in this area is capable of imparting great structure and a predisposition to ageing to wines. The grapes are harvested by hand around the second half of October, and traditional vinification involves fermentation at 28-30°C with daily manual punching-down to facilitate the extraction of polyphenols from the skins. In the next step, the wine is racked into oak barrels for ageing, followed by further bottle ageing.
The 2015 'Collis Breclemae' Ghemme expresses a typical garnet red colour to the eye. The nose offers aromas of red fruits, violets and notes of liquorice, for a full and elegant sip, with velvety tannins and a savoury finish.
