Grands Echezeaux 2003 Domaine de La Romanée-Conti
Grands Echezeaux 2003 from Domaine de La Romanée-Conti is an extraordinary wine from Burgundy, specifically from the Côte de Nuits region. This wine is the result of careful cultivation and vinification of vineyards located within the prestigious Grand Cru Grands Echezeaux. The Grands Echezeaux vineyard covers an area of about 9 hectares and is situated in hilly terrain with an altitude ranging from 250 to 300 meters above sea level. The soil is composed mainly of clay and limestone, with a good presence of stones. This composition ensures good drainage and a perfect balance between minerality and acidity in the wine.
Domaine de La Romanée-Conti follows organic and biodynamic farming methods, with the aim of preserving the authenticity and integrity of the terroir. The vines are cultivated with care and respect for the environment, using traditional techniques such as guyot pruning and tilling without the use of chemicals. Yields are kept low to ensure maximum concentration of aromas and flavors in the grapes.
Harvesting is done manually, carefully selecting only the best bunches. Once in the winery, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in open wooden vats for about two weeks, with careful management of pumping over and delestage to best extract the tannins and aromas from the skins. Next, the wine is racked into French oak barrels (about 50 percent of which are new) for an aging period of 18 to 20 months.
Grands Echezeaux 2003 shows a deep ruby red color with garnet hues. On the nose, it offers a complex and enveloping bouquet, with notes of ripe red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, accompanied by hints of sweet spices, chocolate, tobacco and underbrush. In the mouth, the wine is full, rich and seductive, with soft, velvety tannins and excellent structure. The acidity is balanced, while the finish is long and persistent, with an aftertaste of fruit and spices.
