L'Hermitage Rouge 2019 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave
The Hermitage hill in the northern Rhone has a magical terroir with the potential to produce some of the greatest wines in France and the world.
It is here that Domaine Chave produces very few bottles of one of the company's most prized wines, second only to the legendary Cuvée Cathelin. Historically, wines from this area have received ratings on par with the best wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and Italy.
During the winemaking process, the grapes are 100% destemmed, as Hermitage is an expression of the individual vineyards and soils, and Jean-Louis believes that stalks have a tendency to even out differences. Fermentation takes place in wooden tonneaux and stainless steel tanks, after which the wine matures in barriques for 30 months.
Jean-Louis Chave's Hermitage Rouge 2019 is ruby red in colour with purple highlights. The very expressive nose expresses aromas of blackcurrants with a hint of pepper and liquorice, while in the mouth the sip is elegant and harmonious, deep. It is a great red wine strongly predisposed to ageing.
