Jakot 2017 Radikon
Jakot is the fruit of the long maceration of Friulano grapes by the Radikon winery, the pioneer of orange wines, the inaugurator of an unconventional winemaking style that is now practised throughout the wine world.
Jakot is an orange wine, a wine made from white grapes that is left to macerate for 4 months. The long contact of the must with the skins results in a classic orangey-yellow colour and a powerful, complex body. The grapes from which Radikon Jakot is made are 100% Friulano from vines over 30 years old that are Guyot-trained on a particular soil typical of Friuli called Ponka, a mix of marl and sandstone.
In the vineyard, the use of any chemical products is forbidden and the harvest is strictly manual. After fermentation induced by indigenous yeasts, the must is left to macerate with its own skins for 3-4 months before being aged in oak barrels for 42 months. A further 18 months in bottle and the wine is ready to be put on the market. No filtration or clarification is done, and the wine is bottled without the addition of sulphur dioxide.
Jakot Radikon is an intense, full-bodied wine, the nose alternates between hints of tropical fruit, almonds, ethereal notes and a slight oxidative hint. In the mouth, it is full-bodied and fresh, with a nice savoury texture.
