Marsannay Blanc by Sylvain Pataille is an ode to terroir and artisanal tradition. This extraordinary white wine originates from several prestigious parcels, including Les Crais, Champ Salomon, and Larrey, with vineyards boasting an average age of 40 years. Here, Chardonnay grapes are carefully cultivated on clay-limestone soils, imparting to the wine a unique complexity and character.
The production process harks back to the roots of winemaking craftsmanship. Grapes are hand-selected and harvested, then gently pressed whole-cluster in an ancient vertical press. This method respects the integrity of the grape, allowing for greater expression of the terroir in subsequent stages of vinification.
Fermentation occurs naturally, using exclusively indigenous yeasts, bestowing upon the wine an authentic and singular personality. After fermentation, the wine patiently matures on fine lees for 18 months, in barrels, of which only 30% are new. This process helps develop the complexity and depth of the wine, imparting to the 2021 Marsannay Blanc its distinctive elegance and structure.
The result is a captivating and seductive white wine, with an aromatic bouquet evoking notes of flowers and citrus, underscored by subtle hints of exotic fruit and light toasty, buttery notes. On the palate, the wine distinguishes itself with its balance, breadth, and pleasant salinity, with a vibrant freshness that invites further enjoyment.
