Marsannay Clos Du Roy 2019 Sylvain Pataille
Sylvain Pataille is one of Burgundy's most original and charismatic producers, a legend in the field of natural wines from the French region. Prominent among the red grape labels in his range is this Marsannay Clos Du Roy 2019, an authentic and fascinating version of Pinot Noir from one of the most historic and renowned crus in the northern village of Marsannay.
The grapes come from vines aged between 15 and 60 years, at an altitude of 200-200 metres on a clay-limestone terroir. Vinification follows the principles of biodynamic agriculture without the use of chemicals or sulphites: fermentation takes place 50% whole cluster in steel and fibreglass containers, while ageing lasts a minimum of two years in old wood, with light filtration before bottling.
Sylavin Pataille's Marsannay Clos Du Roy 2019 is a red wine with great purity, complexity and elegance: it expresses a luminous ruby red colour with purple highlights on the nose, while the nose is an explosion of red fruits and spices, violet petals and earthy notes of undergrowth. The sip is powerful but buoyed by a beautiful freshness and well-present tannin, which hints at this wine's great capacity for ageing.
