Marsannay "L'Ancestrale" 2021 Sylvain Pataille
The Marsannay 'l'Ancestrale' is a label that fully expresses the talent of Sylvain Pataille: a fine red wine from Burgundy made using natural methods, because according to Pataille, one has to intervene as little as possible to allow the grapes to express themselves naturally.
It is made from a blend of grapes from the oldest vines owned by the Domaine, aged between 60 and 80 years and coming from the Clos du Roy, Clémengeot and Ouzeloy sites in the village of Marsannay. Whole bunch vinification, long macerations, low sulphur content and long ageing are the basis of Pataille's approach in the cellar. Ageing is carried out for 24 months in 1/3 new barrels, but the woody notes in Pataille's wines are always not too evident and well blended.
The Marsannay L'Ancestrale expresses a beautiful ruby red colour to the eye, while the nose is a concentration of black fruits, spices and floral notes, for a balanced and nicely persistent sip. Probably still a little young, it will be able to express itself at its best after about 5 years of bottle ageing.
