Melon "La Fauquette" 2017 Michel Gahier
Melon "La Fauquette" 2017 is an intriguing expression of the Melon à Queue Rouge grape variety, produced by vintner Michel Gahier in the Jura region. It is a local vine very similar to Chardonnay, which is distinguished by the red peduncle of the bunch.
The grapes come from the vineyard of the same name managed with organic methods, located on perfect marl soils to enhance its qualities. After a rigorous manual selection, a slow spontaneous fermentation takes place in wood. This is followed by a long aging of 48 months in oak barrels, of which 36 "sous voile" i.e. under a veil of yeast.
The wine has an intense golden yellow colour. The nose reveals aromas of cooked apple, citrus peel, hawthorn and oxidative hints. In the mouth it is balanced, with good structure and a vibrant mineral freshness that anticipates the persistent finish with oxidized tones. A great white wine to pair with important fish dishes.
