Nerello Cappuccio 2019 Calabretta

Nerello Cappuccio 2019 is a natural red wine produced by Calabretta. It is made from 100% Nerello Cappuccio grapes and it is very rare to find wines made exclusively from this variety, which is unfairly considered to be the younger brother of the more famous Nerello Mascalese.

The grapes come from a very young vineyard, recently planted, and both in the vineyard and in the cellar organic methods are applied with respect for the environment. The must ferments spontaneously and rests on its fine lees in barriques. Despite coming from very young vines, this Nerello Cappuccio di Calabretta is able to express great elegance and balance.

Intense ruby red in colour, this wine offers on the nose aromas of small red fruits such as blackberries and currants, together with spicy nuances and vegetable touches. The taste is balanced, mineral and persistent.

Calabretta is a Sicilian winery located in Randazzo, on the northern side of Mount Etna. The winery is run by Massimiliano and his father Massimo, who cultivate the twelve and a half hectares of land on the estate by recovering old vines, dry-stone walls and planting new and old vines, preferably free-range and using natural methods.
