Nizza Gavelli DOCG 2018 Garesio
Nizza Gavelli from Garesio winery is a fine red wine belonging to the Nizza controlled and guaranteed designation of origin, one of Piedmont's youngest DOCGs. This wine is made mainly from Barbera grapes from the winery's vineyards located in the Nizza DOCG production area.
The viticulture used to produce Nizza Gavelli DOCG follows traditional Piedmontese practices, which involve espalier cultivation and careful selection of grapes. Farmers at the Garesio winery work the vineyards sustainably, using soil management techniques that maintain the natural balance of the soil and minimize environmental impact. The Barbera grapes used to produce Nizza Gavelli DOCG are hand-picked in small boxes and selected one by one to ensure the highest quality of the final product. After harvesting, the grapes undergo cold pre-fermentation maceration for about 3-4 days, followed by alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for about 10 days. During fermentation, the winery uses selected yeasts to promote the expression of the varietal's organoleptic characteristics.
After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is racked and placed in French oak barrels where malolactic fermentation and subsequent aging takes place for about 18 months. The use of French oak barrels of different sizes, such as barriques and tonneaux, gives the wine notes of vanilla and spices that perfectly complement the fruity aromas typical of Barbera.
Nizza Gavelli Garesio shows an intense and deep ruby red color. On the nose, there are intense notes of berries, spices and vanilla, with hints of chocolate and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is elegant and structured, with soft tannins and good acidity that make it a balanced and harmonious wine. The finish is persistent, with hints of ripe fruit and spices that linger long in the mouth. This wine pairs perfectly with meat dishes, roasts and aged cheeses, but can also be enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine.
