Oslavje 2017 Radikon
Oslavje is one of the flagship wines of the Friulian artisanal winery Radikon, the pioneer of orange wines, the inaugurator of an unconventional style of winemaking that is now practised throughout the wine world.
Radikon Oslavje is made from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon grown on vines over 30 years old that are trained using the Guyot method on a particular soil typical of Friuli called Ponka, a mix of marl and sandstone. In the vineyard, the use of any type of chemical product is banned, only hard manual work and natural fertilisers. Harvesting is manual and once in the cellar, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts and left to macerate for 3-4 months together with their skins in order to obtain the classic coppery colour and a complexity and fullness of flavour and aroma that is difficult to find elsewhere. After the maceration period, the wine is left to mature for 42 months in oak barrels and a further 18 months in the bottle. Before bottling, the wine undergoes no filtration or clarification, and no sulphur is added during bottling.
Oslavje presents itself in the glass of an orange colour with elegant auburn highlights, the nose is a complex mix of aromas of fresh fruit, hints of honey, flowers and small dried fruits. The sip is full and elegant, with an intense flavour supported by a fine savoury note that accompanies a very long finish.
