Pauillac 2005 Pontet-Canet
Chateau Pontet-Canet's 2005 Pauillac Grand Cru Classe is a red wine produced in the Bordelaise region of Pauillac from Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Cabernet Franc (30%), Petit Verdot (3%) and Merlot (2%) grapes. The grapes come from vineyards with gravel and limestone soils, exposed in optimal positions.
Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This is followed by aging for 18 months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new. Thereafter, the wine matures in bottles for several years before release.
The nose opens with intense aromas of red fruits, such as raspberries and blackberries, which blend with spicy notes of cinnamon, cloves and vanilla. Hints of chocolate, coffee, leather and tobacco emerge over time. The palate is full, powerful, with soft, velvety tannins and good freshness. The flavors trace the nose, with a long aromatic persistence.
