Pomerol 2005 Château Le Gay
Château Le Gay 2005 is an exceptional quality Pomerol, sourced from a 6.5-hectare vineyard that was previously owned by the same family as the neighboring Château Lafleur. It is now owned by the family of the late Catherine Péré-Vergé, who also possesses other renowned properties in Pomerol, such as Montviel and La Violette.
The vineyard at Château Le Gay is primarily planted with Merlot (90%) and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc (10%), with vines averaging around 50 years old. This unique terroir, characterized by rich, well-drained soil, allows the grapes to fully express their potential, producing wines of great depth and complexity.
The production techniques at Château Le Gay are meticulous and respect tradition, with a particular focus on quality at every stage of the process. Vinification takes place in concrete and stainless steel vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels, which gives the wine its structure and distinctive character.
Château Le Gay 2005 Pomerol presents an intense ruby red color with purple reflections. On the nose, it offers a complex and captivating bouquet, with notes of ripe cherry, blackberry, cedar, and licorice. On the palate, the wine is enveloping and powerful, with a robust body and well-defined tannic structure. The tannins are soft and velvety, accompanied by a long, spicy finish.
This wine requires at least 10 years of aging to allow the tannins to further soften and to fully express its superb texture and precise flavors. Once matured, Château Le Gay 2005 Pomerol is an ideal accompaniment to game, grilled meats, and roasts, enhancing the richness and complexity of these dishes.
