AZIENDA AGRICOLA ALTURA
Azienda Agricola Altura, natural wines from Tuscany
The Altura farm is a Tuscan reality that was founded by Francesco Carfagna, a mathematics professor who decided to leave his profession in 1985 to move the following year to the island of Giglio, where in 1987 he set up a restaurant that is still very successful today.
A sensitive and visionary personality, during the years he spent on the island of Giglio he decided to embark on a new adventure by recovering old vineyards in the area: he first bought about 4 hectares of abandoned vineyard and then began the laborious work of recovery, with the construction of dry stone walls for the terracing, the working of the land, the planting of rootstocks etc.
A laborious 10 years of work that led Francesco to realise his dream: today the 4 hectares of the estate are cultivated with an ancient vine native to the island, the ansonaco, plus some red grapes. Two labels have been developed: "Carfagna", from pure ansonaco, and "Saverio" from mixed red grapes from the island.
