CASCINA FONTANA
Cascina Fontana, the wines of rural tradition
Cascina Fontana is a family-run winery located near Alba, in the heart of the Langhe region in Piedmont. Here, in an unquestionably beautiful landscape of rolling hills, vineyards and medieval castles, the Fontana family has been producing wine for six generations from their own vineyards.
Mario Fontana, who now runs the company, proudly explains that it was his grandfather Saverio who taught him how to make wine and passed on the passion that he continues to follow today. At the age of 17, Mario decided to leave school and join his parents and grandfather in working at the winery, where he heard the stories of the old farmers of the area who had dedicated their lives to the vineyards.
It was then that the boy fell in love with that world and decided to base his work on respect for the terroir and tradition, elements that allow him to produce wines that are sincere and expressive of their territory. They mainly cultivate Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto grapes, and Barolo Cascina Fontana is their most important and sought-after wine, both in the basic version and in the Barolo di Castiglione Falletto, a label that Mario Fontana has dedicated to his family.
