CHARTOGNE TAILLET

Chartogne-Taillet Grandi BottiglieChartogne-Taillet, natural Champagne

Chartogne-Taillet is a small Champagne producer based in Merfy, a village north-west of Reims. The history of the Maison Chartogne-Taillet in Merfy has very ancient origins, dating back to 1485 at the hands of its founder Fiacre Taillet, while today it is the young Alexandre Chartogne-Taillet who carries on the tradition that has been handed down generation after generation.

The estate has about 11 hectares of vineyards divided into small parcels on the slopes of the Saint Thierry massif, on the Montagne de Reims, in the coldest area of Champagne. The grapes mainly cultivated are the three typical Champagne varieties: Pinot Noir (30%), Chardonnay (25%) and Pinot Meunier (45%), together with a small amount of Arbanne.

At the base of their production philosophy there is an absolute respect for nature, which is why all chemical products are banned as well as machines; in the vineyard they use only the horse, which works the soil in a delicate way, not pressing it but making it softer and more permeable, favouring drainage and the life of the terroir.

Every year, expert analysts check the soils of the different plots to verify their state of health. Every year, Chartogne-Taillet produces around one hundred thousand bottles: a range of Champagne produced using natural and traditional methods, with an elegant and distinctive taste, a pure expression of the village of Merfy.
