CHATEAU DE FOSSE-SECHE
Château de Fosse-Sèche: A thousand-year history and an ecological philosophy
Château de Fosse-Sèche is a historic wine estate located in the heart of the vineyards of Saumur, in the Loire Valley. Founded between 800 and 1000 by Benedictine monks, this estate has spanned centuries of history, evidenced by its ancient masonry vats and other historical wonders such as the chapel, communal oven and dovecote.
In 1998, Guillaume Pire and his mother Françoise fell in love with Fosse-Sèche and decided to make unique wines on this estate. After the arrival of his twin brother Adrien in 2010, the two brothers work together to share their passion for wine and nature, envisioning inimitable, high-quality wines.
The unique geology of the vineyard, composed mainly of flint and iron oxide on Jurassic soil, gives the wines of Fosse-Sèche a very special straightness. Thanks to the cool, breezy exposure and the warmth of the flint, the wines produced here are an expression of exceptional terroir.
The estate's ecological philosophy focuses on preserving the environment and biodiversity. One-third of the land is dedicated to the cultivation of vines, while the remaining two-thirds is used for the development of ecosystems, hosting numerous species of flowers, birds and insects. Château de Fosse-Sèche is also committed to using 100 percent renewable energy and protecting birds through initiatives such as the creation of LPO (Ligue de la Protection des Oiseaux) refuges.
With the ECOCERT label, the estate is recognized as a leader in organic farming and through the Biodyvin label as an exponent of biodynamic agriculture. Château de Fosse-Sèche's ecological commitment is reflected in every aspect of wine production, from vine cultivation to winemaking, ensuring high-quality wines that respect the environment and the land.
