CHATEAU MONBRISON

Monbrisogn Grandi BottiglieChateau Monbrisogn, great wines from Bordeaux

Chateau Monbrison was founded in 1749. At the time, it belonged to the wealthy Segur family, which was among the most prominent names in the entire Bordeaux region. In 1821, the property was bought by Paul Georges de Conquere de Monbrison, from whom the estate took its name. In 1921 it passed into the hands of the American Robert Davies, who replanted the entire vineyard for the first time in 1939, only to be replanted a second time in 1963.

From 1939 to 1963, the vines were rented out to various negociants and chateaux, while from 1964, the estate began to bottle and sell a part of their production, and then did so with their entire production from 1974. Chateau Monbrison remains the property of the direct descendants of the Davies family, and today the estate has a total of 21 hectares of which 15.5 hectares are located in Margaux and are planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, from a very suitable terroir consisting of sand and gravel, with vines averaging 40 years of age.

The rest of their vineyards are in the Haut Medoc appellation. In 2012, Chateau Monbrison completed a complete renovation of the estate including the cellars, which allowed them to add more small fermentation vats, made of stainless steel, for better winemaking capacity. This has allowed the parcels to be vinified separately. To produce the wines of Chateau Monbrison, vinification takes place in traditional stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures, malolactic fermentation takes place in the vat, and the wine is then aged in 40%/50% new French oak barrels for approximately 18 months.
