CLOS ROUGEARD

Clos Rougeard Grandi BottiglieClos Rougeard: great wines from Loire

Clos Rougeard is an important reference in Loire, in particular it is one of the most relevant names of the names Saumur and Saumur Champigny. Located in Chacé, in the French Loire region, Clos Rougeard owes its fame to a blind tasting in Paris in 1993, where the cuvée "Le Bourg" arrived first in front of the biggest Pomerol labels.

Since 1969, after 8 generations, the Foucault brothers (Charly and Nady) were in charge of the estate, but in 2015, following Charly's death, the management of the company passed into the hands of the Martin brothers, while Nady continues to work as technical consultant in the sector. Finally, it was Hervé Berland, former owner of famous estates, who acquired Clos Rougeard.

The company follows the traditional principles of winemaking, according to organic methods where the use of pesticides or chemical substances is banned, because it is first of all the respect for the territory and the vine that guarantees the production of high level wines.

Domaine Clos Rougeard includes 11 hectares of vineyards, where Cabernet Franc is the absolute protagonist, which here reaches levels never seen elsewhere. Two different crus resting on different soils capable of giving maturity and structure to Les Poyeux (sandy and clayey soils) and an extraordinary elegance to Le Bourg (calcareous soils). The vines are on average forty years old, while the grapes that make up the "Le Bourg" cuvée, the most important of the range, come from vines over 70 years old.

With its prestigious and very high level labels, Clos Rougeard is one of the most important and sought after realities of Saumur-Champigny.
