DOMAINE DE LA PEPIERE
La Loira di Domaine De la Pépière
Domaine de la Pépière is located in northern Brittany, particularly in the village of Maison-sur-Sèvre, in the Loire Valley, and was founded in 1984.
Leading the reins of the company is Marc, a passionate vigneron who over the years has chosen to convert the vineyards, together with two collaborators, first into organic and subsequently to biodynamic agriculture.
The company now has about 35 hectares, of which mainly white berried grapes are grown. The terroir of Sèvre et Maine is characterized by a rocky subsoil, which makes the land particularly dry and forces an artificial irrigation of 10 liters daily in summer.
The main grape is Melon de Bourgogne, an indigenous grape variety that has been cultivated in these areas for several centuries. Marc is convinced that the quality of the wines depends on the quality of the grapes, that's why the work in the vineyard is fundamental, and his approach aims to vinify each single parcel separately, in order to enhance its characteristics. As already mentioned, the vinification follows the principles of biodynamic agriculture: manual harvest, spontaneous fermentations based on indigenous yeasts, no use of sulphites or other chemical substances.
Domaine De la Pépiere produces nine labels each year, all with different characteristics based on the terroir of origin, through which it is possible to taste the essence of the Loire Valley in an authentic way.
