DOMAINE DUPASQUIER
Domaine Dupasquier, authentic wines of Savoy
Domaine Dupasquier is a French winery located in the southwest of Savoie, near the Rhone Valley. Today, in its fifth generation, it is winemaker David and his sister Veronique who run the domaine under the guidance of their father Noel, who is still very much involved in vineyard work. The estate has 14 hectares of vineyards growing on steep, well-exposed slopes on mainly calcareous soils.
David works these vineyards with traditional and sustainable methods in order to preserve biodiversity, which is essential for the quality of the wines. Harvesting is done by hand and the grapes are selected by hand, fermentations are spontaneous using only indigenous yeasts and in the cellar long ageing takes place in old barrels and then in bottles before release. Dupasquier usually leave their wines in barrels on fine lees until just before the following year's harvest, plus a further 18 months in bottle.
This type of vinification is a great innovation for the wines of Savoie, where the typical wine is fermented with added yeast and vinified rapidly in stainless steel. The wines of Domaine Dupasquier faithfully reflect the terroir: they are mature and warm, reminiscent of the wines of the Rhone valley, but also have a certain amount of freshness and acidity typical of Savoy wines.
