DOMAINE JEAN-LOUIS CHAVE
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a historic winery in the Northern Rhône whose origins date back to 1481, and is now run by Gérard and his son Jean-Louis Chave, in the 16th generation of the family.
Jean Louis joined his father in 1992, after completing his university studies at the University of Connecticut and earning a degree in oenology at Davis. Since that year, he has completely replanted the vineyards of the family's original estate in Saint-Joseph, which had been abandoned since the early 1900s due to the phylloxera epidemic that had swept through the region.
Today, the Chave family Domaine enjoys a reputation for producing the best Syrah, Marsanne and Roussanne in the world. Their skill is in blending (they have never produced wines from a single vineyard or cru), the secret of the incredible balance in their wines, which are only produced after long discussions and reflections conducted by the entire team.
The Chave family's winemaking methods include traditional farming that includes very low yields, perfect grape maturation and minimal intervention. Precision, talent and the search for the highest quality result in sublime expressions of the purest terroir of the Northern Rhône.
