DOMAINE LANGOUREAU
Domaine Sylvain Langoureau is located in Gamay, a small hamlet of Saint-Aubin, in the Côte de Beaune of Burgundy, France. Founded in 1988 by Sylvain Langoureau, the estate covers an area of about 9.5 hectares, 7.5 of which are dedicated to white wine production and 2 to red wine production.
The history of Domaine Sylvain Langoureau is relatively short, but the Langoureau family has a long tradition of viticulture in the region. Sylvain inherited a passion for wine from his father, Jean Langoureau, who introduced him to viticulture from the time he was a child. After studying agronomy and oenology, Sylvain worked in several prestigious wineries, including Domaine Leflaive, before deciding to start his own business.
The vineyards owned by Domaine Sylvain Langoureau are located in some of the most prestigious areas of the Côte de Beaune, including Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Most of the vineyards are planted with Chardonnay vines, but there are also some plots of Pinot Noir. The Domaine's cultivation philosophy is based on sustainability and respect for the environment, with careful and meticulous management of the vineyards.
In terms of winemaking philosophy, Domaine Sylvain Langoureau takes a traditional and minimalist approach. After the grapes are harvested by hand, they are gently pressed and then fermented in oak barrels. Sylvain Langoureau believes that the true character of the wine must come from the land and the terroir, which is why he avoids using too many technical interventions during winemaking. The goal is to make wines that express the purity and authenticity of the terroir.
Domaine Sylvain Langoureau produces some of the most highly regarded white wines of the Côte de Beaune, including Saint-Aubin Premier Cru Les Frionnes, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru En Remilly and Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Folatières. The wines have a unique elegance and freshness, with notes of white fruit, citrus and minerality. The red wines, such as Saint-Aubin Premier Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, are also of high quality and are distinguished by their complexity and aromatic intensity.
