DOMAINE LEROY
The Domaine Leroy was founded in 1988 by Lalou Bize-Leroy, when, dismissed from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, he bought 21 hectares of vines in Vosne-Romanée and all the vineyards were converted to biodynamic agriculture.
All vines at the Domaine Leroy have different ages and are interconnected, like a family, since the vine is never replanted at the same time: each vine is replanted only when necessary and the old vines are replaced by the young developed by the shoots of sister plants.
The yields at Domaine Leroy are incredibly low (around 16hL per hectare, depending on the vintage and the denomination) and as a result extremely concentrated wines are produced.
After the wines are finally pressed, they are transported to the first of the two underground caverns. Here the juice undergoes malolactic fermentation. The juice is poured out of the sediment and the wine is moved once again to another cellar. In this deep and cold cellar the wine ages until it is ready for bottling. In order not to harm wine in its most fragile state, the liquid is transferred only with gravity, without the use of pumps.
One of the peculiarities of the Domaine Leroy is that there is no winemaker or winemaker. The wines have such a high quality that they are left to age naturally!
