DOMAINE MAYARD
Domaine Mayard is a new player in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine scene, with roots steeped in generations of family history. Arthur and Hugo Mayard, the sixth generation of the family’s winemakers, established their own estate following the separation of the family’s vineyards, continuing a tradition of vinous excellence.
The estate spans about a dozen hectares across several communes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes-du-Rhône. With their inaugural vintage in 2021, Arthur and Hugo introduced regenerative agriculture practices, emphasizing soil health and biodiversity. Their organic farming methods, cover cropping, and minimal intervention aim to improve the vine's energy reserves and sap flow, ensuring sustainable, productive vines for over 100 years.
Situated in the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate’s vineyards are located in Le Grand Coulet, Les Serres, La Crau Est, and Le Pointu, with an additional two hectares in nearby Côtes-du-Rhône. Their vinification process is designed to highlight old vine Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and Syrah, with many Grenache vines aged between 80 and 120 years.
In 2022, Arthur and Hugo built a new cellar in the center of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, equipped with concrete, wood, and stainless steel vats, used according to the plot and vintage. Fermentations are carried out with partially destemmed grapes, native yeasts, and no sulfur, with a maceration period of around 40 days. Aging takes place in large wooden vats for the first year, followed by concrete vats before bottling after 18 months.
The wines produced by Domaine Mayard are outstanding, with perfect balance between ripeness and complexity. This young estate has already seen significant success, a testament to the excellence that Arthur and Hugo bring to this new chapter of their family’s storied winemaking history.
