FATTORIA DI BACCHERETO TERRE A MANO
Fattoria di Bacchereto Terre a Mano, biodynamic wines from Tuscany
Fattoria di Bacchereto is a Tuscan winery located in the hills of Montalbano, a few kilometres from Carmignano. The estate has very ancient origins dating back to the 15th century when it belonged to the Medici family. In 1925 the estate was bought by the Bencini Tesi family, who began producing oil and wine in the 1960s.
Today it is the heir Rossella Bencini Tesi who runs the estate, embracing biodynamic farming principles since 2002 in the management of the 8 hectares of vineyards at an altitude between 200 and 500 metres above sea level. The estate comprises a total of 167 hectares where, in addition to vineyards, there are woods, orchards, chestnut groves and olive groves. The vines mainly cultivated are typical of the area such as Trebbiano, Sangiovese, Canaiolo nero and Cabernet Sauvignon. Green manure is grown on these soils and the use of chemical substances is banned, replaced by natural compounds and minimum percentages of sulphur and copper.
In the cellar, a wine is produced by spontaneous fermentation using only indigenous yeasts, without any chemical aid. The wine is stored in large wooden barrels and bottled without filtration. The prince of the estate is Carmignano, a wine obtained from a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo nero and Cabernet Sauvignon, which expresses great character and reflects the territory in an authentic way.
