GANGLOFF
Yves Gangloff, the rockstar of Rhone Valley
Yves Gangloff is a visionary and talented vigneron from the northern Rhône Valley. The story of the birth of his Domaine is an original and romantic one. Yves went to the Rhone Valley to visit his brother, met his future wife Mathilde, and never left. He found work as a labourer and in the meantime became so passionate about wine that in 1982 he and his wife bought a small one-hectare plot of land. In 1987, the négotians to whom they sold their grapes went bankrupt, and they were forced to make their own wine.
Years of study and research followed, which led Gangloff to become a legend in the region from the 1990s onwards. Gangloff's wines are of astonishing quality and are produced in very limited quantities: the cellar is located in the heart of Condrieu and the vineyards are spread out between Condrieu, Cote-Rotie and St.-Joseph, on very steep hills. He conducts precise and meticulous work both in the vineyard and in the cellar, using only indigenous yeasts and intervening as little as possible. He uses partially new oak for fermentations and small, minimally new oak barrels for ageing.
His wines express the characteristics of the Cote Rotie and the Condrieu with personality and energy. As well as being a wine superstar, Yves is also a great musician and collector: he owns around 30 guitars and plays Jazz, Blues and Rock music. The artistic vein runs in the family as his younger brother Pierre is a painter and the author of Gangloff's beautiful wine labels depicting voluptuous nudes.
